Black sesame seed salad dressing

Posted on

This recipe is heavily based on the recipe for honey sesame dressing found in The Colophone Cafe Best Recipes by Ray Dun and Taimi Dunn Gorman.

  • 1/3 cup black sesame seeds
  • 1/2 small onion
  • 1″ ginger root
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup flax seed oil
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1 t soy sauce
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1 t paprika
  • 1/2 t mustard powder
  • a few drops of liquid stevia

Spread the sesame seeds on a baking tray lined with baking paper and cook at 350° F / 180° C for 20 minutes.  Grate or purée the ginger and the onion  (I used a spice grinder).  Put the sesame seeds and some of the oil (as needed) in a blender or grinder capable of cutting the seeds (I again used the spice grinder).  Mix all the ingredients except the stevia together well in a food processor or blender.  Sweeten to taste with stevia.
